Family Clay Workshop
NEW! We have special workshops scheduled for the week of February Vacation 2018 from 3-5:30PM. The projects are as follows:
Monday 2/26: Decorated Bowls Building with coils of clay placed inside a bowl form, participants will create their own bowl. They can then decorate their bowl, adding stamps, handles, quotes, and more.
Tuesday 2/27: Personalized Mugs Students will create a customized mug by using stamps, carving, painting patterns, and adding unique handles.
Thursday 3/1: Small Textured plates Beginning with a slab of clay and a variety of different plate shapes, we will create a small plate. Students can use stamps, sculpted clay, and more to augment and dress up their dish.
Friday 3/2: Animal Pinch Pots Students will transform a ball of clay into a pinch pot that they can decorate and embellish to become whatever animal or creature they desire. The finished pots can hold treasures or hold small seedlings or plants as your table centerpiece.
Normally, this workshop will be held once a month on the 1st Saturday of the month from 4-5:30PM and there will be a hand-sculpted project planned for each day. All ages are welcome, but parents of kids under 5 should expect to help their child make a piece together. See below for project descriptions.
Come join us for an afternoon of creativity and relaxation!
These clay projects will foster the creativity and fine motor skills of children and adults alike! The finished projects can become a heartfelt & handmade gift for certain family members who are hard to shop for, or they can simply be fun experiments in playing with clay. Every project has ample room for customization and creativity, so independent thinkers can take the projects in whatever direction they choose. Since the project changes each month, families can participate in multiple workshops and never get bored!
Pre-registration is encouraged. The price of $15 per participant includes one hand-sculpted piece per person, but if the child is 5 or under, parents will likely need to help their child sculpt their piece.
Leave your creations with us to fire and we will let you know when they are ready to pick up. Please allow 3-4 weeks for completion.
March 3rd & 10th: Fairy Houses (or Hobbit/Gnome/Monster Houses)
Starting with a wheel thrown base made by one of our great studio potters, students will create a charming woodland residence that will invite imagination into any garden. Student will use coils, stamps and cut outs to add doors windows, chimneys and other homey details to the base we provide. Give this as a gift to the gardener in the family or put it in your own front lawns to spark imagination and outdoor play. Pre-registration is required for this workshop.
April 7th: Leaf Dishes
This project uses slabs of clay and leaves to create a collection of up to 3 leaf-shaped dishes for the decorator in your life. Students will press textured leaves into soft slabs and then use molds and add decorative elements to create ring holders, soap dishes, candy dishes and spoon rests.
Future Months will be announced soon!
NOTE: This is not a wheel-throwing class. If you are interested in wheel throwing with your child, please reserve a spot in our “Family Pottery Workshop” (every first Saturday from 2-3PM) or the “Try it! Clay Workshop from 3-6” (every Saturday). Wheel throwing is more appropriate for kids 9+
Price includes all materials, instruction, and finishing of work. Just show up, and enjoy the experience. Workshop times are from 1:30-2:30PM every Saturday!
