After School Art for Kids (7-9)
The Fall 2017 Session begins September 11th. Classes run for 10 weeks and students come in once per week. There are no classes during Manchester School Vacations. We are planning to end the last class of the session with a mini exhibition/reception in our gallery. Parents are encouraged to join in the festivities! Please register early to ensure the class will run. The minimum is 3 students, and the maximum is 8. The Monday and Tuesday art classes will cover a variety of media and Thursday and Friday will focus on clay, incorporating a mix of sculpture and pottery wheel. Younger children may only try the pottery wheel once or twice, depending on the age mix. The pottery wheel is difficult for young ones, due to smaller bodies and shorter attention spans.
With a minimum number of 3 students, we may be able to hold a class at another time of the week to accomodate your schedule. Get a group of friends together and suggest a time that will work for you! There are kids scholarships available and there is a Sibling or Referral Discount of 5%. Please contact us directly to apply these discounts.
Monday, 4-5PM, Mixed Media, Playing with Pattern: We will produce beautiful works by testing out various forms of repetition and patterning, with influence from cultural examples around the world. We will learn about tessellations, make block printed patterned designs, construct mosaics and mandalas, examine henna (without application to skin!), and sharpen our eye in the world of visual patterning!
Tuesday, 4-5PM, Mixed Media, Fabulous Fibers: Your child will have the opportunity to experiment with felt, looming/weaving, knitting, and fibers jewelry making, with examples from various cultural backgrounds! This class speaks strongly to the very tactile, lovers of fine motor expression!
Thursday, 4-5PM, Clay, Monsters & Myth: Dragons! Monsters! Beasts! Oh my! Using the wonderfuly verstile medium of clay, we will create monster boxes, sculptures of mythical creatures of our own design, tell stories with our creations, and more.
Friday, 4-5PM, Clay, Travel the World with Clay: We will hop around the globe and study different cultures week to week from the lens of their ceramic practice. From Chinese Yixing teapots, to African patterns and sculpture, to Native American pottery and totems, and more. The world is a rich landscape to draw inspiration from!
